Egg and sperm freezing for cancer patients, trans people and elective egg freezing

Sometimes freezing eggs or sperm is part of fertility treatment. Others who don’t have fertility problems may also choose to freeze.

People who are having cancer treatments which could affect their fertility may be able to freeze eggs or sperm before they have treatment, to help preserve their fertility.

Transgender people who are going to undergo hormone therapy or surgery may also want to freeze eggs or sperm.

Sometimes women who are worried about their future fertility may decide to pay to freeze their eggs so that they can use them in the future. There are strict laws on how long eggs, sperm or embryos can be frozen depending upon the reason that this is being done.
