A GUIDE TO FERTILITY
How can we prevent infertility?
There are lifestyle factors that are important for fertility. Below are three important factors to consider to give yourself the best chance of pregnancy.
1. Body mass index: Aim for a BMI between 19 and 25. A BMI greater than 25 is associated with a reduced chance of pregnancy.
2. Quit smoking and vaping. Both reduces the chance of pregnancy.
3. Alcohol intake. Aim for less than 6 units/week for women or 12 units/week for men. A unit of alcohol is a small glass of wine, half a pint of beer or shot of spirits.
Changing to a healthier lifestyle (e.g., stopping smoking and heavy drinking, or losing weight) can improve your chances of getting pregnant and of having a healthier pregnancy and baby.
