Grants and Awards

Educational Grants

The purpose of these grants is to help BFS members attend the Fertility Conference who might not otherwise be able to due to lack of financial support. They are targeted at junior clinical and scientific members of the society, as well as nurses and counsellors, although any member is welcome to apply.

Number, frequency and timing of awards

The value of each grant will be £250 and up to 5 awards will be made each year.  The deadline for applications is the 1st November 2023. 

Conditions of award

  • The applicant must be an existing BFS member with paid up membership of at least one year at the time of application.
  • The recipient should not have received a BFS travel grant within the previous three years.
  • Proof of eligibility should be confirmed and the application supported by your hospital manager, senior scientist or clinic director.
  • The award must be used within 12 months of receipt.
  • Proof of attendance at the meeting must be provided to the BFS secretariat within one month of attending the meeting.
  • A 400 word summary highlighting one notable session from the meeting must be submitted to the BFS Secretariat within one month of the date of the meeting and may be reproduced on the BFS website at the discretion of the Secretary.

Scientific Prizes

These prizes are awarded at the BFS annual scientific meetings for outstanding work as judged by a panel during the meeting.

BFS Best Young Scientist Award

Awarded for work undertaken within the preceding 5 years of the meeting and given as oral presentation. Only open to non-clinician; previous winners of this award are not eligible.

This is awarded to the presenting first author only.

£250 plus complimentary registration to the next scientific meeting

BFS Best Early Career Clinician Award

Awarded for work undertaken within preceding 5 years of meeting and given as oral presentation.

Only open to those where the first author/presenter is below consultant level (or equivalent); previous winners of this award are not eligible.

This is awarded to the presenting first author only.

£250 plus complimentary registration to the next scientific meeting.

BFS Best Nurse Award

Awarded for the best abstract; poster or oral presentation, with a nurse as first author; previous winners are not eligible for this award.

This is awarded to the presenting author only.

£250 plus complimentary registration to the next scientific meeting.

BFS Best Poster Award

Presented to the presenting author of the best poster at the BFS Annual Meeting.

This is awarded to the presenting author only.

£250 plus complimentary registration to the next scientific meeting.

 

General Guidance Notes for Scientific Prizes

  • Awards are open to BFS members only.
  • The awards listed will be awarded only at each scientific meeting.
  • All awards are open to sponsorship. The BFS Treasurer or BFS Secretariat will advise what arrangements are currently in place. If an award is not currently sponsored then this presents an additional sponsorship opportunity.
  • Sponsors of these awards are acknowledged in the programme thus: Best Young Scientist Abstract Session sponsored by (name of the sponsoring company).
  • Candidates for the above mentioned awards must indicate their wish to be considered for one only of the awards on the abstract submission form.
  • All abstracts of authors indicating a wish to be considered for an award will be reviewed by the Abstract Review Committee for the Joint Fertility Conference
  • Each award winner will be presented with a BFS Certificate prepared by the BFS Secretariat.
  • Prize monies will be transferred after the meeting
  • Award winners will also be awarded a free registration to the next annual scientific meeting.
  • All abstracts nominated for an award will be presented by the qualifying author unless prior permission has been granted by the BFS Meetings Subcommittee. Failure to do so will disqualify the paper from consideration for an award.
  • Prizes are non-transferable.
