Dr Jane Stewart, Chair of the British Fertility Society said: “The British Fertility Society does not support or condone the work of doctors who make provision for treatment overseas that enables patients to undergo procedures which would be illegal at home. These are allegations that need to be properly understood but would be an example of unprofessional practice bringing our highly specialised services into disrepute. We are already working with the regulator, the HFEA, to provide strong guidance around so-called ‘add-ons’ to fertility treatment which can be commercially exploitative of patients.

“We are saddened and disappointed to see these practices being undertaken and blatantly disregarding the ethical and moral constraints that govern our practice in the UK and which are indeed protected in law.”
