The BFS hosts a major scientific meeting each year. This meeting
is normally held in the spring. Every second year the BFS
annual meeting is held jointly with the Society for Reproduction
and Fertility and the British Andrology Society.
The annual scientific meeting is held over three days and includes
plenary sessions, prize paper sessions, short communication sessions
and two eponymous lectureships - The Patrick Steptoe Memorial Lecture
and the H S Jacobs President's lecture. There is also a poster abstract
display. Trade symposia are held and pre and post congress specialist
educational workshops are also available to delegates. Prizes are
awarded in several categories to the leading short communication
(oral). A full social programme is also included. This meeting is
planned to be of interest to all constituent groups within the Society.
The BFS also hosts educational workshops. The most prominent of
these is the Winter Workshop which is a meeting of a more focused
nature. This meeting may well have in its content something for
the different constituent members of the Society. However because
of its smaller more focused nature its content may have a more
limited appeal. The structure of the meeting is based around plenary
lectures and small group discussions. There are no prize sessions
and no short oral communication sessions.
